Tips for your Italian Trip

If you are planning to visit Italy for the first time, maybe you will like to discover some basic infos that will help you enjoying your trip at the best.

  • Tips are not mandatory. They are welcome, of course, but not mandatory.
  • Taxes are always included in the price (21%)
  • Drinking: You can drink only if you’re 18. Recently in some cities it has been forbidden to drink outside the bar after a certain time ( 11 pm or midnight in some cases). Anyway the penalty is only a ticket for the bar (Don’t worry, people won’t be arrested!!)
  • Smoking: it’s forbidden to smoke in the public places (restaurants, bars etc) but some have smoking areas. Recently  some cities have extended the prohibition to public gardens.
  • Thanks to the liberalization, now shops can stay open on Sunday too, malls included.
  • Our malls don't have shops only, but also a grocery shopping centre inside. Like a mall with a Wall Mart incorporated
  • Traditional Italian lunch time is from 12.00 pm to 2.00 pm and dinner from 7.00 to 9.00 pm.
  • We don’t have 24 hours grocery stores.
  • Especially when taking the metro or the train, pay attention to your purse, never leave in open or on your back, to avoid thief’s surprises…
  • In Italy trains are very often late. I mean LATE. So consider more than one option when travelling this way ( especially if you have to take more than one train)
  • In Italy Hotels are cathegorized by stars: 1 is very cheap 5S is the best. We also have motels and B&B.
  • Usually it is better to avoid hotels near the train station unless they are really good ones ( from 4 stars ).
  • Train station areas are the less recommended especially by night.
  • The price for a coffee can vary from 0.70 cent ( Naples) to 1.20€. The average now is 1 €. It can be more expensive if you decide to take a sit or to take one in Piazza San Marco in Venice ( or any other super touristic site).
